Abstract
In 1669 Archbishop Sheldon initiated a national enquiry into the state of dissenting congregations. The surviving parish returns for Bucks are here printed in full and they tell us much about the various sects, their meetings, social origins, teachers and attitudes. Also included are the summaries compiled by William Wake, Bishop of Lincoln, of the responses made by incumbents in the archdeaconry of Buckingham to his triennial visitation questionnaires, 1706-1712.
