Abstract
Jericho was built in the 19th century on land that was largely uninhabited. Its rapid expansion was due largely to the construction of the new Oxford University Press building and the Jericho Iron and Brass Foundry, coupled with the close proximity of the Oxford Canal. It has also been the home for other well-known local firms: Johnson's, Stephenson's and Hinkins & Frewin.
The building of St. Barnabas Church formed a nucleus for the fledgling community and most of the social activities were based around the church. Many of its original buildings survive intact. This book has been compiled with the help of past and present residents.
