Abstract
This booklet and the exhibition it was principally designed to accompany, represents the work of a group of adult students who met in 1977-1978 in Banbury and Swalcliffe as part of an evening course sponsored by the Oxford University Department of External Studies and the Workers' Educational Association. The object was to study the history of the parish of Swalcliffe through original evidence drawn from its landscape, buildings and documents, and from its present day inhabitants. The central theme was the ever-present relationship between the land and the people of such a rural community, from the Iron Age and Roman occupation to the present day.
