The object of this work is to provide a guide to the accessibility of otherwise of parish registers. The introductory chapter describes the subject from a historical perspective, but the book is primarily designed to provide practical information for the researcher. The main part of the book is an index which shows at a glance the date of the earliest entry in every parish register in England and Wales, and in which every transcript that has been printed is noted.
