Abstract
Rusher's directories enable the history of the town through the 19th century to be analysed to a degree that is impossible in most other places. Thanks to the Rushers it is possible to identify year by year from 1796 all those who held authority in the town. The lists provide a uniquely comprehensive record of the network of country carriers for which Banbury was famous. It is possible to identify every significant trader, and to trace the appearances and disappearances of religious groups, schools and voluntary societies.

This book provides a partial finding aid to use of the invaluable Banbury Trades and Occupation Directories published by J.G. Rusher from 1832 on, concluding under William Potts in 1906. Note that not all information in the directories is included.
