Abstract
Since 1194 it has been the duty of coroners to investigate the circumstances of unnatural, sudden or suspicious deaths, and of deaths in prison. This is a first attempt to itemise all extant coroners' records in England and Wales now in public repositories. It incorporates lists made by Dr Hunnisett for the medieval period, and by the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts.
