Abstract
In 1845 a number of families left Middleton Cheney to emigrate to Australia aboard a ship called the Templar. The Chinners and the Wilds are known to have been Middleton families. Reverend Stonehouse had been the Baptist Minister in Middleton before transferring to Chipping Norton, and it is believed that he may have organised the emigration.

In 1991 a diary was discovered which gives a day to day account of that voyage. Although the diary was not written by a member of a Middleton family, the Chinners and the Wilds are mentioned in the record.
